Hennepin County Library genealogy research resources

Sometimes having a few things at your fingertips to help your research is a big plus. Hopefully some of these will benefit your work. If you have additional tips, please include them in the comments.

Library Subject Guide
Select "Genealogy" under "Subject Guides" on your local library computer system. This should connect you to up-to-date reference and research information. Lots of libraries have genealogy blogs, take a look and be sure to read those too.

Free Genealogy Classes
The library in Hennepin County offers free classes on the third Wednesday of the the month from 10:30-Noon. Check with your library to see what they have to offer. There are also genealogy volunteers at the Minneapolis Central Library to help you get started or work in specialized areas.

Check the Catalog
There are lots of handbooks, guides and manuals in the library collections. Choose "Library Collections" and use keyword search "genealogy" to see what is available. If the library doesn't have what you need, you can also use InterLibrary Loan and FamilySearch
